On the Champions League scene, Spurs scored twice in the second half to start their campaign in Group D with a 2-0 home win over 10-man Marseille.

For the Sporting Lisbon game, Tottenham Hotspur rode their luck to get to the last minute of the game without conceding a goal. The Spurs rearguard had the likes of Argentina football star Cristian Romero, Englishman Eric Dier&Welshman Ben Davies and they were fortunate not to concede until Portuguese star Paulinho broke the deadlock on the stroke of fulltime. Paulinho flicked a header into the back of the Tottenham Hotspur net off the corner kick taken by compatriot Pedro Goncalves.
Brazilian forward Arthur came off the bench for the impressive Englishman Marcus Edwards in the first minute of second half added time and he bamboozled Argentina international Romero and Brazil international Emerson Royal with his quick feet to slot home the second Sporting Lisbon goal in the third minute of second half added time to seal the win for his team. Brazilian star Emerson and Argentina football star Romero should have defended better for the second Sporting goal.
