The Argentina national football team is currently positioned in the 2nd spot of the FIFA rankings with only Brazil being located in a higher place.

Despite being in such an elevated spot, Argentina has been significantly suffering after recently losing to Bolivia.

Argentina had to lock horns with Bolivia on March 28 of 2017 for their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification and despite having the likes of highly-rated players such as: Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero and Marcos Rojo, it was not enough for Argentina to overcome Bolivia as they lost 0-2.

Jorge Sampaoli was selected as the new coach of Argentina a few days after this defeat; by June 1st of 2017 it was already confirmed. Sampaoli is a manager who has experience coaching national sides as he pushed Chile to the finals of the 2015 Copa America and was actually able to defeat Argentina in a penalty session.

The next task of Jorge Sampaoli is to guide the Argentinean national side through their upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches and hopefully win all of these approaching games.

Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador are the 4 final opponents of Argentina. Jorge Sampaoli is hoping that he can snatch positive results against all of them in order to ensure Argentina´s qualification ticket to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

At the time of writing this article, Argentina is located in the 5th spot of the CONMEBOL group with 22 points secured from their 14 opening qualification matches.

The top 4 spots of this group are automatically qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup while the team that is positioned at the 5th place can actually still qualify but will have to compete in the play-offs in order to secure their qualification ticket.

Taking into consideration the fact that Argentina reached finished as runners-up during the previous 2014 FIFA World Cup, not being able to qualify for this next edition of the tournament would be a huge disappointment and Jorge Sampaoli is hoping to not only help Argentina qualify but to also drive them through the advanced stages of the upcoming worldwide competition which is scheduled to kick off on June 14 of 2018.
