Argentina manager Edgardo Bauzahas backed striker Sergio Aguero to rediscover his best form for the international team.

The Manchester City striker has not been at his best in the last two games against Paraguay and Peru. The Copa America 2016 finalists failed to win both these games – in fact they suffered a loss against Paraguay. It has meant a catastrophic start to the World Cup 2018 qualification campaign.

Aguero has been at the receiving end of much criticism for the poor work done by Argentina as a team.Bauza says that the criticism has been unfair since the player has been working at his best levels.

Aguero has in fact not been at his best for Argentina for a long time. He has managed only one goal in his last 10 appearances for the national team and it was in a game against minnows Panama at the Copa America. There have been increasing calls for the 28-year-old to be dropped from the national team. Fans, though, have been extremely looking forward to a potential return for Carlos Tevez, who continues to be a fan favourite despite his poor goal return.

The backing for Aguero comes at a time when even Bauza is facing an uncertain future after taking over the national team only a few months ago.

"I try not to pay attention to the comments. In Argentina some of the critics about football are constructive, but the disrespect bothers me. Aguero is now criticized in Manchester City and in Argentina, despite all the things he did. Aguero has proven that he has a great performance and that he deserves to be in the national team.He may have bad moments, but he can win a match,” said the manager, who will be hoping for the national team’s second win of the qualification campaign when they take on Brazil in November.
