West Ham provided a route into European football for Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, who is seen as a legend by many back in his home country.

He came to West Ham has a relative unknown only to embark on a career that saw him play for the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Juventus. He has recently ended his spell with European football by re-joining Boca Juniors. However, he has provided plenty of inspiration for young Argentine strikers coming into European football. One such name is Manuel Lanzini, who has started in a similar fashion to that of Tevez by joining West Ham United.

He becomes one of the club’s important signings after having arrived from Al Jazira on a season-long loan deal. At just 22 years of age, he promises to be a special player indeed.Lanzini says that he is aware of West Ham’s history with Tevez and Javier Mascherano. Both players played an important role in keeping the club as a Premier League outfit at the expense of Sheffield United. However, West Ham were later punished with a financial penalty since Tevez and Mascherano were not eligible to be fielded according to Premier League rules. Despite this setback, Tevez went on to have a great career in English football.

“I know the Club from Argentinian players, Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez. I know that the fans are very supportive, the team is very competitive and this is all important to a player’s development. Tevez is an amazing player. He made history here but we are very different players. I am here to try to make my own history for this club and have a place in the heart of the fans. First of all, I want to settle here, this is a very difficult and competitive league,” saidLanzini.
