MESSI EQUALS ASSIST RECORD AGAINST S/ETIENNE

Seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi equalled teammate Kylian Mbappe at the top of the list of players with the most assists in French Ligue 1 football this season. The Argentina national team talisman provided an assist for Mbappe during the home game with Saint Etienne at the weekend to pull level with him on the assist chart.

MAC ALLISTER OUT OF SPURS GAME

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been ruled out of the FA Cup fourth round tie with London team Tottenham Hotspur after failing to recover from Covid-19. The Argentina national team player was confirmed as an absentee for the FA Cup clash at Spurs by his manager, Graham Potter. The ex-Swansea City boss told the media about the absence of the Argentina star in his press conference on Thursday ahead of the FA Cup fourth round trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to him, the two-cap Argentina international midfielder has not been able to return a negative Covid-19 test and that he will miss the Spurs game as a result.

AS EXPECTED, MESSI MAKES FIFA SHORTLIST

It was not surprising that Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi was named on the three-man shortlist for The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year award. The Argentina skipper was one of the three players who made the shortlist. Apart from Messi, Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah were also named on the shortlist.

2021 was not the best year for Messi in terms of goals and assists, but it was the year that the petite magician finally managed to win an international competition for Argentina. He was the star man as Argentina ended their long wait for a major title by winning the Copa America tournament last summer. Argentina beat hosts Brazil 1-0 in the final to win the tournament with PSG attacker Angel Di Maria getting the only goal of the game for the two-time world champions.

MESSI HITS BRACE AGAINST BRUGGE

Lionel Messi was back amongst the goals for Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after the Argentina senior national team skipper scored two goals in the 4-1 drubbing of Belgian champions Club Brugge during the Champions League Group A clash played at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

PSG had already sealed a spot in the Champions League knockout stage before they played hosts to the team from the Belgian top flight in their final group game. The French top flight league leaders have to settle for second place in Group A behind leaders Manchester City after the 2-1 comeback defeat to the Premier League champions in their penultimate group game.

GUIDO RODRIGUEZ ON ARSENAL, SPURS RADAR

North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on signing Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez ahead of the winter transfer window which starts in a couple of weeks. This is according to the report from Fichajes which stated that the Argentina national team midfielder has become a hot commodity due to his impressive performances for Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga.

The summer transfer window is now closed for business and every club that could not complete their transfers this summer will have to wait until the January winter transfer window (the earliest) before they can think of venturing into the transfer market again. Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi will have just one goal in mind while he is currently away on international duty with his country Argentina. Messi is already a legend of the game of football but while he has been richly successful with his club side FC Barcelona, he has not quite enjoyed the luck and success with his country's national team. One of the reasons he is still considered as a little bit incomparable to Cristiano Ronaldo is because he does not perform for Argentina as well as he does for Barcelona, and even some fans and past players have questioned his ability to perform on the biggest stage when his country needs him the most.
